Tras conseguir aguantar trabajando los meses de julio y agosto en Madrid, llegaron las ansiadas vacaciones. Una semana en el Cabo de Gata (Almería). Por fin después de muchos años cumplimos la promesa que nos hicimos de volver a Las Negras. Cada mañana el desayuno tenía azucarillos filosóficos, para alimentar cuerpo y mente.
After we have survived to work the months of July and August in Madrid, the longed for holidays arrived: one week in Cabo de Gata (Almeria). Finally, after many years we fulfilled the promise, we returning to Las Negras. Every morning the breakfast had a philosophical sugar, to feed body and mind.
Las Negras es un pueblo pequeñito, y La Aurora se convirtió en nuestro segundo hogar durante estos días. Empatizamos con el personal y tienen los mejores cafés de las Negras. Los creps mejor para compartir que tienen tamaño suficiente para saciar a un mamut, y están deliciosos.
Las Negras is a small town, and La Aurora became our second home during these days. We empathize with the staff who feed us a lot, and also they have the best coffees of the town. They had the best crepes to share because that are large enough to satisfy mammoth, are delicious.

Think about this journey is to think of the Uno playing cards. We play hard at beach. The cards still smell of salt, relax and laughter. We even invented some new game rules.
Hace un par de años, cuando trabajaba como camarera en un restaurante de playa, mi tío en una conversación telefónica me hizo darme cuenta que la gente de vacaciones casi no tiene preocupaciones. Era cierto, me fijaba y todos los clientes se tomaban mucho mejor los posibles inconvenientes, nadie te contaba problemas, todo era positivo, y eso me encantaba. El poso que dejó todo esto es la posibilidad que tenemos de cambiar el foco, por supuesto que a todos se nos tuercen las cosas de vez en cuando, pero siempre habrá un lugar donde concentrar tu atención y que te haga sentir un poco más feliz. El caso es que una noche las cosas no fueron como habíamos idealizado en nuestros recuerdos con la cena pero ahora recuerdo mucho más intensamente la amabilidad de esa persona que antes de fumar mientras cenábamos nos preguntó si nos molestaba, el paseo de después, la playa y el gelato, y esa es otra, pocas cosas hay que no arregle un buen helado. Por eso esta doble página para mi, es muy especial.
A couple of years ago, when I was working as a waitress in a beach restaurant, my uncle in a telephone conversation made me realize that holiday people are quite happy. It was true, I noticed that all the customers took much better the possible inconveniences, nobody told about problems, everything was positive, and I loved that. Then I learn that we always have the possibility to change the focus, of course, everyone has bad things sometimes, but you will always have a place to focus their attention and make you feel a little happier. The fact is that one night, things were not as we had idealized in our memories with dinner but now I remember more intensely the friendliness of the person who asks for permission before smoking while we are dinner, the walk with J, the beach, and the gelato. Uno de los días necesitamos una farmacia, en Las Negras no hay, Ricardo el taxista del pueblo nos llevó y nos regaló un par de sitios buenísimos para comer en la zona.

Cuando vivía en Valladolid, recuerdo comentar con mis compañeros no vallisoletanos de la escuela, que aquel invierno allí parecía Londres. Así que desde que supe de nuestra nueva vida aquí, en Reino Unido, la imaginaba gris y lluviosa. Necesitaba un plan.
When I lived in Valladolid, I remember talking with my classmates who are not from this city, that the winter there looks like London winter. So, ever since I knew about our new life here in the UK, I imagined it gray and rainy. I needed a plan.

Hace poco más de una semana llegó hasta mi nuevo hogar, en Inglaterra, un paquete lleno de regalitos de alguien que me quiere mucho y me conoce bien. Allí estaba ella: mi primera pluma Sailor.
One week ago, more or less, I received in my new home, in England, a package filled with gifts from someone who loved me and came to know me very well. There it was: my first Sailor fountain pen.
La primera vez que escuché hablar de ella y la probé fue durante un taller de caligrafía en la Biblioteca Nacional, y no llamó mucho mi atención, no le vi nada especial.
The first time I heard about it and tried this pen was during a calligraphy workshop in the National Library (Spain), and I didn’t like it, I not felling well.
Un par de meses más tarde en el Taller Artístico, Gustavo la mencionó de nuevo, y por más que me dejó probarla, no me atrapaba. Me escudaba en el «yo es que soy de grafito, a la tinta no le termino coger el punto«.
A couple of months later in El Taller Artístico de Huelva, Gustavo mentioned it again, and as much as he let me try it, did not catch me. I was shielded saying «I love graphite, the ink don’t fall me in love«.

Así llegó el día en que, tras un mes lleno de tinta, la pluma Sailor volvió a cruzarse conmigo, mi regalo incluía cargador pero ni lo vi de la emoción, y por eso tengo pendiente probarla con mis tintas favoritas. Si quieres que te cuente mis progresos con ella, házmelo saber en los comentarios ;)
Then came the day when, after a month full of ink, the Sailor pen came back to cross with me. My gift included a converter, but I did not see it because I was very excited, and for that reason, I have pending try it with my favorite inks. Con todos estos datos previos, te contaré, que se trata de una pluma caligráfica con la punta torcida (como cuando se te cae un pilot de punta y ahí termina vuestra aventura juntos). Se distinguen según el grado de inclinación de la punta con respecto a la horizontal (cuán levantada está) y esto determina el grosor del trazo.
With all that, I will tell you, that it is a calligraphic pen with a crooked tip (like when you drop a Pilot and end your adventure together). They are distinguished according to the degree of inclination of the tip with respect to the horizontal (how inclined it is) and this determines the thickness of the stroke line.
En el pack viene la pluma y dos cartuchos negros, puedes comprar el cargador a parte y así poder usarla con la tinta que tú prefieras.
In the pack comes the pen and two black cartridges, you can buy the converter separately so you can use it with the ink you prefer.
Sus trazos son distintos según la inclinación y no por la presión, esto hace que sea raro al principio.

Cuanto más perpendicular al papel más fino el trazo.

Llegando al mínimo cuando la uso «del revés».

También hace distinto el trazo vertical que el horizontal.

A 45º aprox. el trazo es medio. Es un medio finito y esto, para mí, es una de sus genialidades.

Y casi paralela al papel el trazo se hace más grueso.

Llegando en horizontal a unos 2.5mm más o menos.

La tinta que traen los cartuchos se puede aplicar sin problema sobre distintas técnicas (De izquierda a derecha y de arriba a abajo: tinta directa sobre papel – tinta sobre colerase de Prismacolor // tinta sobre gouache – tinta sobre acuarela – tinta sobre Polycrhomos – tinta sobre Prismacolor Premier – tinta sobre grafito).
The ink that the cartridges bring can be applied without problems on different techniques (From left to right and from top to bottom: direct ink on paper – ink on colerase from Prismacolor // ink on gouache – ink on watercolor – ink on Polycrhomos – ink On Prismacolor Premier – ink on graphite)
También puedes usar encima de la tinta distintas técnicas. Ten cuidado con las húmedas pues dependiendo del tipo de papel, la tinta se diluye o no. El que ves en la foto es de 75gsm y sorpredentemente en él la tinta no se diluye. He probado en el de 110gsm de los sketching journal de la casa Ryman y sí se diluye (pero en este papel la letra queda genial).
You can also use different techniques on top of the ink. Be careful with the wet techniques because depending on the type of paper, the ink is diluted or not. The one you see in the photo is 75gsm and surprisingly in it, the ink is not diluted. I have tested in the 110gsm of the sketching journal of the Ryman house and yes it is diluted (but in this paper the letter looks great).
De nuevo, de izquierda a derecha y de arriba a abajo: grafito sobre tinta – Polychromos sobre tinta – Prismacolor Premier sobre tinta – acuarela sobre tinta – gouache sobre tinta – tinta golden yelllow sobre tinta Sailor.

Por último, quiero mostrarte cómo se comportan otras herramientas con las que puedes conseguir ese trazo modulado, personal y expresivo, ya que según tú estilo, puedes preferir unas u otras. Para mi tipo de trazo, de momento, prefiero la pluma Sailor a los kuretake de punta rígida. Me quedo con el de punta de pincel y la Sailor, ya que ambas dan resultados diferentes. Para llevar siempre conmigo la Sailor, que escribir textos largos con el pincel no es una opción, al menos para mi.
Finally, I want to show you how other tools with which you can get that modulated stroke, personal and expressive, because according to your style, you can prefer one or the other. For my type of stroke, at the moment, I prefer the Sailor pen to the kuretake with a rigid tip. I prefer the kuretake brush tip and the Sailor, because they both give different results. To always carry Sailor with me, that writing long texts with the brush is not an option, at least for me.
Ahora, después de probarla en el momento justo… confieso… ¡me ha robado el corazón! Ya no salgo sin ella, ahora puedo salir sin grafito pero no sin Sailor, y es que además de conseguir el «trazo tensionado», que a mi me enamora (así llamábamos en la escuela a la línea con distintos grosores; esto da carácter, volumen y expesividad a la linea), y mi letra con esa pluma es genial.
Now, after trying it at the right time … I confess … it has stolen my heart! Este post iba a ser para anunciar que a partir de hoy podrías adquirir los originales que componen mi Inktober2016. Un reto donde he querido generar una única imagen que iba creciendo cada día. Me ha costado mantener el secreto mientras iba añadiendo pieza a pieza, pero aquí está al completo.
This post would be to announce that from today you could buy the originals of my Inktober2016. I wanted to create a single image that was growing every day. It not been easy keep the secret while the puzzle was growing piece by piece, but here’s the complete picture.

¡Han volado! Cuando comencé el reto no pensé nunca poner a la venta los originales, pero poco a poco empezaron a preguntarme si lo haría y así llegaron las reservas y «me lo pido» que han hecho que hoy tenga que colgar el cartel de agotado. ¡Muchas, muchas gracias!

Las primeras decisiones importantes fueron consecuencia de mi experiencia con el inktober 2015
The first important decisions were the result of my experience with the Inktober 2015
- El tamaño, pasado del A4 del año pasado al A5 de este año.
- Contar con un texto sobre el que trabajar.
- The size, from the A4 in the past to the A5 to this year.
- Having a text on which to work.
Y una tercera que he querido manter del reto 2015
And a third I wanted to keep from the 2015 challenge:
- Que todo el reto estuviera unido. Que cada día formara parte de un todo, y así surgió la idea puzzle.
- That all were a united challenge. Every day was part of a whole, and so did the puzzle idea.
Estas decisiones creo que han sido claves para conseguir el reto, además del apoyo y la ilusión de ver a tanta gente compartiendo tantas cosas tan bellas.
El proceso de trabajo consistía en copiar, el día anterior al terminar todo, copiaba el fragmento de texto a ilustrar en una hoja, a mano… una manera de interiorizar y empezar a preparar los ingredientes para la receta.
I think these decisions that have been keys to the success of the challenge and the support and enthusiasm of seeing so many people sharing so much beautiful inked illustrations.
The work process was to copy, the day before the end of all, copied the text fragment to illustrate in a sheet, by hand … a way of internalizing and start preparing the ingredients for the recipe.
La mañana siguiente releía el texto y en los primeros era más inmediato, menos encadenado, pero conforme el mosaico fue creciendo el proceso se modificó para releer el texto con el mosaico sobre mi mesa.
Un pequeño boceto, al pie del texto hacía la primera miniatura de boceto y dónde se situaría dentro del todo.
Después boceto a tamaño real.
Para con la casera mesa de luz, calcar sobre el papel Daler-Rowney de 220gr
The next morning he reread the text and the first was more immediate, less when the days go on, then as the mosaic grew I revised the process to reread the text with mosaic on my desk.

Then I sketch like the final size.
And with my «home lightbox», I copy on Daler-Rowney 130lb paper.
Con las líneas principales a lápiz llegaba la tinta. Diversión, experimentación, y muchas herramientas para contar lo que quería contar.
With the main lines on the paper then came ink. Fun, experimentation, and many tools to tell what they wanted to tell with the illustration.
Después de la tinta llegaba el proceso de foto, edición y redacción del post. Para que tú pudieras disfrutarlo desde el otro lado de la pantalla. :)

Inktober2016 29 y 30.
Hoy acaba oficialmente el reto. El próximo lunes te espero aquí con una pequeña sorpresa que ha ido creciendo todo este mes ;)
- Que nos hagan mejores que los demás puede haber cientos de cosas. Que nos haga superiores no hay siquiera una.
Cuando te ensalcen, piensa siempre en dos cosas: lo que ya has hecho, y lo que te falta por hacer. Lo primero para no dejar de ser agradecido. Lo segundo para no dejar de ser humilde. Una persona arrogante busca brillar. Una persona humilde busca crecer.

- Encontrar el equilibrio en la vida es como encontrar la armonía en los ingredientes, no todo de uno, sino un poco de todos, y no en proporciones iguales. Este símil no se aplica solo a las áreas de nuestra vida, sino también a las personas y a las relaciones. De tu lista de personas importantes, tú debes estar a la cabeza, y valorarte a ti mismo es valorar tu tiempo y a qué personas se lo regalas.
